'Super Flower Blood Moon' seen around the world - in pictures

A total lunar eclipse graced the night sky on Sunday and Monday, providing longer than usual thrills for stargazers across North and South America.

The Moon was seen bathed in the reflected red and orange colours of Earth’s sunsets and sunrises for about 90 minutes. It was the first blood Moon in a year and with it falling on May's full moon, earned itself the "Super Flower Blood Moon" moniker among astronomers.

Observers in the eastern half of North America and all of Central and South America had prime seats for the show. Partial stages of the eclipse were visible in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi sentenced to jail for corruption

 A court in military-ruled Myanmar has sentenced Aung San Suu Kyi to five years in jail after finding the civilian leader guilty in the first of 11 corruption cases against her, according to media reports. The Reuters and Associated Press news agencies, citing sources with knowledge of the matter, said the sentence was announced in Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw, on Wednesday. The judge handed down the verdict within moments of the court convening, Reuters reported. The case centred on allegations that Aung San Suu Kyi, 76, accepted 11.4 kg (402 oz) of gold and cash payments totalling $600,000 from her protege-turned-accuser, former Yangon chief minister Phyo Min Thein.
